It is nice to see some gender equality in the game industry and that is exactly what is shown off with Guerrilla Games Horizon: Zero Dawn. Many modern AAA games tend to focus more on a male protagonist particularly in an action setting with a few notable exceptions Samus Aran, Lara Croft and so on but with Horizon: Zero Dawn the game seems to be making a big deal of the female protagonist.
Right now we have only seen a single trailer for the game and within it was shown a female lead, it remains to be seen whether a male protagonist could be in the game as well, however the trailer does leave this idea questionable as it potray’s our protagonists thoughts and feelings pretty heavily. We will have to wait and see what is announced in the future.
