Next Destiny expansion Rise of Iron officially announced

In case you are one of the few people that managed to avoid the leaks for Destiny’s next expansion, it has been revealed that the new expansion will be titled Rise of Iron and this comes directly from Bungie. This follows several leaks over the past few weeks, so there is little surprise to be found in today’s announcement, however we do still have the details on what this new expansion will offer.

Destiny: Rise of Iron takes place in a new section of Earth titled the Plaguelands, a location that seems to be a giant icy wasteland. In terms of what this new content will offer beyond this, it has been confirmed that it will add a new six-player Raid, a new social space called Felwinter Peak, a new cooperative three-player Strike, and a Light level increase. Please note though that you will need to own both Destiny and The Taken King if you wish to go on this journey, it will not be playable otherwise.

Rise of Iron will include a returning weapon known as the Gjallarhorn which will be attainable by every player, however those who pre-order this expansion will be able to receive a more unique variation of the weapon, a limited edition black-and-silver version to be more specific. Players will be able to forge the rocket launcher via a quest that requires players to assemble the weapon out of the armor of fallen heroes. Interestingly there is even a whole trailer dedicated to just this weapon and you can find that below:

Destiny: Rise of Iron is set for release on September 20th for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game, should you wish to purchase it the expansion will cost $30. You can find the official reveal trailer below:

Bungie has also revealed that the game will not be coming to last generation consoles the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
