Sony Pictures In Talks With Nintendo For Super Mario Bros. Movie

Sony Pictures are reportedly in talks with Nintendo about obtaining rights to make a Super  Mario Bros movie.

The news first came to light when emails sent by producer Avi Arad, who worked on well known Marvel properties like Ghost Rider, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Iron Man, were leaked during the massive hack that leaked Terra bytes of data from the Sony Pictures Servers.

“I am the proud father of Mario the animated film,”

Arad shared in his email to Sony Pictures co-chairman, Amy Pascal on the 23rd October 2014.

Earlier emails from as early as February made reference to visits to Japan so that Arad could meet up with his “Nintendo guy”.
A later trip in July reads:

I am heading to Tokyo… I am going to try and bring back a little plumber. I guess we can use all our pipes cleaned.”

Images of Arad accompanied by Satoru Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo have also been found, with the caption, “Happy CEO, lets get together, it’s the mother load”

When questioned, Arad has denied that the deal had closed, but confirmed that their discussions with Nintendo were “just the beginning.”
