Supermassive Games says Until Dawn exceeded sales expectations, already discussing ideas for Until Dawn 2

Sony and Supermassive Games Until Dawn has been a surprising runaway success, although the game has received mixed critical response commercially the game has been extremely successful, even more then the developers even expected. In the UK charts for its debut Until Dawn came in 2nd, and for the month of August Until Dawn was overall in 7th for the United States, executive producer of Until Dawn Pete Samuel’s has said the game surpassed sales expectations.

In an interview with Playstation Lifestyle Samuel’s was asked if Until Dawn was performing better then expected to which he responded:

It’s definitely surpassed expectations. I think that’s already been stated in other interviews, and reports of significant retail outlets running out of stock during the first weeks after release kind of supports that.

Given the success of Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games is already looking at doing a follow up to the smash hit with Until Dawn 2, however this may not be all for the studio. According to Samuel’s the studio could be looking at expanding upon the idea of Until Dawn and looking at other genres.

Samuel’s had this to say about the future for the studio and Until Dawn:

I think that you should expect the team to build on what we’ve done with Until Dawn, whether it’s in horror or in other genres. We’re already working on one thing that does that, whilst exploring other avenues for our other teams in anticipation of them finishing their current projects. We do talk internally about what Until Dawn 2 could be, as it clearly can’t be a sequel in the traditional sense, with the same characters facing the same threat, not least of which because in different stories some or all of them are already dead! We’ve investigated other ways we could do Until Dawn 2 but it probably is a little early to be discussing that.

Unfortunately, I am still yet to have played Until Dawn but I would happily welcome a sequel or a similar idea in the future, but what do you think, would you like to see Until Dawn 2, or was Until Dawn just a one off that is better off being just that, please let us know in the comments below.
