Walking Dead Turning Into First-Person Shooter

Activision is asking for the assistance of Terminal Reality in order to produce a first-person shooter game from the popular AMC series The Walking Dead. This is in addition to the mini-series video game created by TellTale Games. Via Market Watch:

Based on AMC’s Emmy-Award winning TV series, the do-whatever-you-need-to-survive first-person action game will allow players to assume the role of the mysterious, crossbow-wielding survivor Daryl Dixon, alongside his overbearing brother Merle, on a haunting, unforgiving quest to make their way to the supposed safety of Atlanta.

“The work AMC has done with the TV series has been amazing and we’re ecstatic at the opportunity to be brought into the fold,” said Drew Haworth, Creative Director at Terminal Reality. “The studio is made up of fans of the show, and we think other fans will see that the situations and walkers featured in our game are every bit as gruesome and shocking as they are in the TV series – they look, move and react as expected with full authenticity – and they will surprise you. The player’s fight-or-flight survival instinct is constantly engaged. ‘Flight’ is usually a good bet.”

Strange that the main characters in this upcoming game has Daryl and Merle as the main characters. Daryl’s pretty cool, but he has a supporting role and Merle comes out for what- two episodes in the show? I would have thought that the three most badass and most popular characters- Rick, Shane, and Andrea- would warrant more excitement. Not sure I’m gonna like this.

Anyways, it takes place in the Georgia countryside, and zombies are scattered everywhere. You can go in sneakily, taking out the walkers without attracting too attention, or you can take them on directly in an all out war.

Resources in this post-apocalyptic world will be few, and rationing of food, medical supplies, and ammunition necessary. Along Daryl or Merle’s journey you will encounter strangers who could benefit or harm your mission, and every step you take, every move you make could just alert the mad-hungry undead to your position.

The new game is set for release next year on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, and has no rating as of yet.
