Sony Could Be Annoucing An Oculus Rift Esque Headset At GDC 2014

Yesterday TechRadar  received a rumour from an apparently highly reputable source, that Sony may be revealing their virtual reality headset, which over the previous months has been rumoured to be in  development. The source has apparently spent some times behind closed doors with Sony’s new peripheral. Some comments the source made are “Sony has deliberately taken its time to tweak and polish the headset before revealing it” which would make sense to the fact that rumours of the headset have been circulating for a long while. Apparently this has worked out for the peripheral as the source also said,  “The quality and resolution are really, really good, people will definitely be impressed with what Sony’s built”.

GDC-2014

The date the source believes this headset will be revealed is the 17th of march, at the Game Developers Conference is San Francisco, this would also make a lot of sense with the rumour, as the console developers are now for showing of new technology at this conference or around this time. This allows Sony to demonstrate and focus on  the hardware at GDC so that they can focus on the games being developed for it being shown of at the Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3. Oculus_Color_logo

Also to be noted is that last month the creators of the VR headset’s poster child the Oculus Rift said that the PS4 and Xbox ONE’s hardware aren’t powerful enough to handle virtual reality headsets.

What do you think? Is the PS4 powerful to handle a VR headset well, and do you think this source is reliable? Also what games would you like Sony to make compatible with their headset?

Tell us what you think in the comments below.
