The Last Of Us Part II Remastered Is Coming To The PS5 In 2024

Following a recent leak that The Last Of Us Part II would receive a remaster, Naughty Dog has confirmed the sequel will launch on the PlayStation 5 in January 2024. In a blog post by the Santa Monica studio, The Last Of Us Part II Remastered will present “plenty of reasons” for players, old and new, to return to the sequel.

Considered one of the last great titles to launch on the PS4 more than three years ago, The Last Of Us Part II Remastered boasts “technological improvements” and “enhanced graphics” to help it stand apart from its predecessor. The remaster supports Native 4K output in Fidelity Mode and a Performance Mode upscaled to 4K from 1440p. An Unlocked Framerate option will be available on televisions supporting VRR.

Plus, Naughty Dog points out the remaster will be released with updated texture resolutions, level-of-detail distances, shadow quality, and a refined animation sampling rate.

The Last Of Us Part II Remastered includes a brand-new mode called No Return, a roguelike survival mode designed to deliver a “fresh experience” in combat with “randomized encounters” and a wealth of playable characters to choose between. New characters, skins, and rewards can be attained in No Return as a player progresses while competing to climb a global leaderboard.

A new Guitar Free Play mode will let players refine their musical technique with a range of “unlockable instruments” and use “audio FX pedals” to create a new sound for their performance, and switch between characters and locations to create a unique mood and perspective.

Next, we have The Lost Levels, a series of playable sequences left on the cutting room floor during development. “These aren’t fully finished levels, but rather early-development slices,” Naughty Dog says. With a fresh insight into the sequel, the lost levels will include “embedded developer commentary” for “richer context.”

If you want to obtain a copy of The Last Of Us Part II Remastered, this is what you need to know. If you own the physical game of Part II on the PS4, insert the disc into the PS5 each time you want to download or play the remaster, much like Resident Evil 2 on the PS4.

Plus, the upgrade is only $10 (UK price will likely be around the same). Pre-orders go live on December 5, 2023.

The Last Of Us Part II Remastered will land on the PlayStation 5 on January 19, 2024. You can read GameLuster’s review for The Last Of Us Part II here.
