Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: What Are Bubbulfrogs And How To Find Them

The land of Hyrule is filled with mysterious and wondrous creatures, from wild horses Link can ride to Bokoblins and Octoroks that will attack him on sight. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom adds several new animals and monsters for Link to encounter, including Zonai constructs, massive Battle Taluses, and more. One of the most unique new creatures is the rare Bubbulfrog which, when encountered, can provide Link with a variety of rewards. This guide covers everything you need to know about how to find Bubbulfrogs in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and what to do with the Bubbul Gems they drop.

Every Cave Hides A Bubbulfrog

Bubbul3

While exploring Hyrule, you might hear some NPCs discussing an old rumor that “every cave hides a Bubbulfrog.” And this does indeed seem to be true – the majority of caves Link encounters are home to one of these creatures! So, to find a Bubbulfrog, simply look around for caves in the area.

Caves are most common in the mountainous Eldin and Hebra regions, but can be found throughout Hyrule. Keep an eye out for swarms of bat-like Keese, who tend to dwell in caves, and for glowing, rabbit-like creatures called Blupees. Both of these are potential indicators that there might be a cave nearby!

Note that wells and caves are considered two different things – although both are underground, most wells in Tears of the Kingdom are not home to any Bubbulfrogs.

A Few Arrows Will Do The Trick

Bubbul1

Once you’ve located a Bubbulfrog, the first thing you should do is clear out any other cave-dwelling monsters – such as Keese, Horriblins, or Like Likes – that might be around. While the Bubbulfrog itself is not an aggressive creature, other monsters typically are, and they can make attempting to target the Bubbulfrog and claim its treasure quite difficult.

After all monsters are clear, aim at the Bubbulfrog and shoot it with an arrow. Generally, two or three shots should be enough to defeat the creature. If the Bubbulfrog is difficult to reach, you can attach a Keese, Aerocuda, or Octorok Eyeball to your arrow to create a homing projectile that is pretty much guaranteed to hit. Don’t be afraid to take your time – while Bubbulfrogs can attack you, their only move is to shoot slow-moving bubbles that do very little damage, so they’re generally not dangerous. If the Bubbulfrog falls to the ground but is not yet defeated, you can also use a jump attack to finish the battle.

Once a Bubbulfrog is defeated, two things will generally happen: One, it will drop a stone called a Bubbul Gem, which you should claim immediately. Secondly, in most cases, a Blupee will briefly appear and run away from the scene. You can shoot this Blupee with arrows to earn a random amount of Rupees. Because they move so quickly, it is again recommended that you use eyeball-attached homing arrows for this part.

Bring Your Bubbul Gems To Koltin

Bubbul2

Once you’ve collected a few Bubbul Gems, head to the Woodland Stable in the southern part of the Eldin region and look for the nearby Pico Pond. There, you will find monster enthusiast Kilton (a returning character from Breath of the Wild), arguing with a new character, his brother Koltin. Koltin is a bizarre little fellow who… wants to eat as many Bubbul Gems as possible in hopes of transforming into a glowing Satori creature like the mystical Lord of the Mountain. A little strange, but hey, he’s willing to offer rewards, so why not go along with it?

In exchange for the first Bubbul Gem, Koltin will give you a Bokoblin Mask, which allows you to blend in with Bokoblin enemies. After this point, Kilton will relocate to Tarrey Town in the Akkala region, while Koltin will wander throughout Hyrule. Visit Kilton to find out where Koltin is (he tends to move around a lot) and then find Koltin to trade in your Bubbul Gems for a variety of rewards. His rewards include other masks, various monster parts you can fuse with weapons or cook into Elixirs, and the brand-new Mystic Robe armor set, which allows you to lose Rupees instead of health when you are wearing it.

Here is a list of all the rewards Koltin offers, as well as how many Bubbul Gems they cost to redeem.
