Anna Torv Is Cast As Tess In HBO’s The Last Of Us

Another addition has been made to the cast for HBO’s forthcoming adaptation of The Last Of Us. Anna Torv, best known for her work on Fringe and Mindhunter, has been cast as Tess in a recurring role, according to a report from Deadline

This would suggest that Torv’s role in the series could last longer than her video game counterpart, who succumbed to infection early in the game. Tess, a hardened survivor, and smuggler, helps Joel deliver Ellie to a Firefly group waiting in the Capitol, only to find them dead and she herself infected. As the military closes in on them, Tess is eventually killed by the soldiers to help Joel and Ellie escape. Torv is further credited with roles such as The NewsreaderYoung LionsSecret City, and The Secret Life Of Us

The cast has expanded considerably over the past few weeks, with key characters including Tommy, Bill, Frank, and Sarah being cast, as well as original characters. The pilot of the series, (the first of ten episodes), will be directed by Russian director Kantemir Balagov.

Filming is underway as the first photos recently emerged from a set in Fort Macleod in Canada. Standing in for Austin, Texas, the hometown of Joel and Sarah, various photos reveal emergency vehicles and camera rigs.

The Last of Us TV series charts a brutal journey across what remains of the US as Joel smuggles an immune 14-year old Ellie to a military group, The Fireflies, in a bid to create a vaccine for the Cordyceps virus.

A premiere date has yet to be announced, but a recent Instagram post from Kantemir Balagov suggests the series could air as early as 2022. The Last Of Us is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog.
