The beta for Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been downloaded more than any other beta in the franchise, Treyarch confirm. The beta was initially scheduled to close on October 19, but as previously reported, was later extended for another 24 hours into October 20. Players were tasked with solving a series of coded messages sent out in emails.
Treyarch posted the announcement to Twitter, thanking fans everywhere for making the feat possible to a montage of action shots from Black Ops Cold War. Treyarch hasn’t shared any further details about the beta record, but it’s fair to imagine that the numbers are pretty high, and that’s saying something considering a previous record set in 2019.
In September 2019, similar news broke as the Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer beta became the largest beta in Call Of Duty history. From the most users, hours played and highest peak concurrent number of players across all major platforms, the beta was a huge hit. The beta further included crossplay, which allowed players to connect across PS4, Xbox One, and PC, a first for the franchise.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is due for release on November 13, 2020. Black Ops Cold War is a direct sequel to 2010’s Black Ops, bridging the narrative gaps between the first and second games.
The game’s description cites that players will be dropped into “the dark center of this global conspiracy alongside iconic characters Woods, Mason, and Hudson and a new cast of operatives attempting to stop a plot decades in the making.”
