Hardsuit Labs Hit With Layoffs After Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 Departure

After less than two weeks since Paradox Interactive announced that they were no longer working with Hardsuit Labs on Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2, several of the developers are now facing layoffs.

The news was initially only made public by some developers announcing their departure from the company on social media. However, Hardsuit Labs later confirmed the news in a statement to Rock Paper Shotgun.

As part of the statement, Hardsuit Labs said: “While we worked hard to source some great work opportunities for the studio to move forward with, we were unable to provide work for a small number of individuals and thus made the difficult decision to part ways.”

They added: “This decision was not made lightly and was done so only after we felt we had exhausted the opportunities to avoid such a layoff.” The developer has offered support to the affected employees in helping them find new opportunities.

As for those affected by the layoffs, as mentioned, many took to social media to announce the news.

Nicole Stanford, Former Narrative Designer said on Twitter: “So unfortunately there were layoffs at Hardsuit Labs, and the entire narrative team including myself were affected. If you know about any writing or narrative design opportunities, I would greatly appreciate hearing about the opportunity.”

Fellow Former Narrative Designer, Anna also tweeted: “I’m heartbroken to announce that I’ve been laid off from my position as a narrative designer at Hardsuit Labs.”

Former Producer, Austin also announced the news: “Unfortunately – I was apart of the Hardsuit Labs layoffs today. It sucks, and I’m pretty bummed about the whole thing, but I feel really good about the folks I met and the friends I made while there.”

Hardsuit Labs haven’t said why the layoffs have happened, but it is speculated that it is linked to the departure from Paradox on Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2.

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 has been delayed multiple times from its original March 2020 release date and has lost multiple designers along the way. Paradox has recently departed from Hardsuit Studios to work with a different developer.
