Nintendo’s March 8 Nintendo Direct proves that the 3DS is still relevant, releasing details on exciting new titles and ports coming out this year and beyond.
The first section of the Direct was dedicated to 3DS titles. WarioWare Gold was announced, making it the first Wario game since 2013. It will feature the iconic WarioWare mini-game format with over 300 different microgames to enjoy. It will utilize the touch screen, microphone, and gyroscopic tools in the 3DS. The game is set to launch on August 3, 2018.
Dillon’s Dead-Heat Breakers was the next title announced, featuring Dillon the armadillo and your own “animalized Mii character.” A demo for the game will be available on May 10 and the full game releases on May 24, all on the Nintendo eShop.
Nintendo showed new footage of Detective Pikachu and revealed plot details on this spin-off. The game can now be pre-purchased on the eShop as of today. A 5.3 inch Detective Pikachu amiibo figure will be available for purchase the same day the game releases, March 23.
A remake of Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey makes its way to the 3DS with enhanced graphics and gameplay. Bowser Jr’s Journey is a brand new, tacked-on story. The game will launch in 2019.
Luigi’s Mansion, which was originally released in 2001, is making its way to the 3DS as a remake. This time it will feature a map on the 2DS and on the 3DS’s bottom screen. An inclusion exclusive to this port is a boss rush mode, where players can battle past bosses. Luigi’s Mansion will be out some time this year.
Sushi Striker: The Way of the Sushido is coming to the 3DS on June 8, 2018. This puzzle-action game has the player gorge themselves with sushi by matching colors and throwing them at an opponent.
Lastly, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is being ported to the 3DS. It will utilize the 3D and touch-screen controls, and launches on July 13.
The 3DS has a very strong line-up for 2018. With Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr’s Journey releasing next year, it appears the console’s longevity will extend beyond 2018.
