Mysterious New Pokémon Announcement Teased

Early this morning, the official Pokémon Twitter account announced that there was a new Pokémon discovered in the Galar Region, with a link to the new Pokémon in the tweet. However, when the fans clicked the link, they were brought to the homepage of the Pokémon Sword and Shield website, with a slight difference: the addition of a glitched-out green and white form that bounces around the page.

When clicked on, the sound of a Rotom’s cry is heard, probably symbolizing the Rotom Pokédex, and a new page opens. This page shows a bigger picture of the glitched-out form and gives a bit of information about the new Pokémon. It is a fighting type with the ability Steadfast. The page also gives a Pokédex entry for the Pokémon, with parts of it unreadable. The text reads: “Only [REDACTED] that have survived many battles can attain this [REDACTED]. When this Pokémon’s [REDACTED][REDACTED]ers, it will retire from combat.”

SCP now stands for Super Confusing Pokémon.

The glitchiness of both the Pokémon and the text hearken back to the days of the Pokémon Game Boy games, where a broken Pokémon called MissingNO could be encountered. It would appear as a glitched-out box in battle and cause the player’s item text to glitch out. However, it is currently unknown why Nintendo decided to announce a new Pokémon this way.

Fans think they have already uncovered what this Pokémon is, however. Searching the webpage, part of the Pokémon’s Japanese name can be found: ナイト (naito), which can be ‘knight’ or ‘night’ in English. When the silhouette was flipped sideways, people found that it bore a striking resemblance to a bird with a lance, matching the description of a previously leaked (also leeked) Pokémon known as Sirfetch’d, which would be a Galarian form or evolution of Farfetch’d. This, in combination with the ‘knight’ part of its Japanese name, gives fans reason to believe that this reveal is in fact for a new Farfetch’d form or evolution.

Pokémon Sword and Shield will release on Nov. 15 for the Nintendo Switch, but it’s clear there are more announcements in store for the two months before its release.
