PlayStation State of Play: The Last of Us Part II gets a release date

A new trailer was shown for developer Naughty Dog’s highly anticipated The Last of Us Part II. The trailer shows highlights from the story, and some new gameplay footage. You can view the trailer here:

The Last of Us Part II will release on PlayStation 4 February 21, 2020. Several editions of the game were announced for pre-order after the State of Play livestream, with one including a life-size replica of Ellie’s backpack. More information about what’s included in each edition can be found on the PlayStation Blog here.

A discovery made by Wario64 on Twitter has confirmed that physical copies of The Last of Us Part II will include two discs, implying that we’re in for a massive experience. On this subject, Creative Director Neil Druckmann expanded:

“We began working on this game over five years ago… What we realized pretty early on is that we were putting together Naughty Dog’s most ambitious and longest game in our 35 year history. To tell this kind of story, the game needed to be massive.”

Whether he means massive in scale or massive in playtime, it seems we’re in for quite the roller coaster ride. On Thursday Sept. 26, Outbreak Day, the media will be going hands-on with Ellie’s journey as they get to play through two levels. The media event begins at 8 a.m. PT that day, be sure to keep an eye out for some brand new gameplay footage.

If you’re behind on your The Last of Us lore, PlayStation is releasing the original game for free as part of their PlayStation Plus subscription service. You’ll be able to add it to your library at any time during the month of October, alongside MLB The Show 19 for all the baseball fans out there.
