Today is Pokémon Day, the anniversary of the release of Pokémon Red and Green over 20 years ago. To celebrate, the Pokémon Company released a Pokémon Presents showcasing the upcoming Pokémon content. This video revealed the upcoming new content planned for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet coming this year.
First off, there is a new raid event featuring two brand-new Legendary Paradox Pokémon. Walking Wake, the Paradox form of Suicune, will be available to battle in Pokémon Scarlet, and Iron Leaves, the Paradox form of Virizion, will be available to battle in Pokémon Violet. Walking Wake is a Water and Dragon type, and will have a Water Tera type during the event, and Iron Leaves is a Grass and Psychic type, and will have a Psychic Tera Type in the event. The event will be beginning sometime today.
Next, it was announced that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be receiving Pokémon GO connectivity later today. You can connect to Pokémon GO and transfer postcards received from Pokéstops and gifts onto the Nintendo Switch game, enabling Trainers in Paldea to capture other patterns of Vivillon, determined by where the sent postcards are from. By doing this, Trainers in Pokémon GO will also receive a reward — the chance to capture Roaming Form Gimmighoul, which can be evolved into Gholdengo by collecting 999 coins. It is unclear if capturing Gimmighoul will give Trainers coins, or if there will be other methods of obtaining them.
Along with Pokémon GO connectivity, Pokémon Home support should be coming to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet early 2023.
Finally, it was announced that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be getting DLC, called the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. This DLC will have two parts, Part 1: The Teal Mask, releasing in Fall 2023, and Part 2: The Indigo Disk, releasing in Winter 2023.
In Part 1: The Teal Mask, players will be journeying to the region of Kitakami on a school trip. This region appears to be inspired by rural Japan, with an area to explore reminiscent of a traditional Japanese summer festival. The area is home to the Legendary Pokémon Ogerpon, which is clad in the titular Teal Mask, as well as a few others: Munkidori, Okidogi, and Fezandipiti, which are based off the monkey, dog, and pheasant from the Japanese folktale Momotaro. Many older Pokémon not natively found in Paldea can be caught in this DLC, such as Chingling, Milotic, Vikavolt, Ninetales, Shiftry, Yanma, and others.
In Part 2: The Indigo Disk, players will participate in an exchange program with another Pokémon academy, the Blueberry Academy. This school is located on a floating artificial island, and looks to be very battle-focused. Playing this part of the DLC will let players uncover the mysteries of Terapagos, a new Legendary Pokémon that bears a striking resemblance to the hexagon-clad Pokémon mentioned in the Scarlet or Violet books. Older Pokémon not native to Paldea will also appear here, featuring Zebstrika, Whimsicott, Dewgong, Metagross, Alcreamie, Espurr, and others.
The DLC will have two new companions who will be featured in both stories, named Carmine and Kieran. Players will be able to use their Pokémon and save data from the main games in the DLC. Purchasing the expansion will allow players to have access to a new uniform set that they can use while exploring Paldea. There is also an early purchase bonus for players available until Oct. 31st, featuring a Dark Tera type Hisuian Zoroark that knows the move Happy Hour. The DLC will be available for pre-purchase later today.
