Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne Remaster Will Feature Dante as Paid DLC

One of the most well-known facts about Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne (in particular, its director’s cut version, subtitled Maniax) was that famous demon hunter Dante made an appearance. Physical editions of the game were even sold with “Featuring Dante From The Devil May Cry Series,” emblazoned in large letters across the box.

The red-coated hunter first appeared wandering around Tokyo, before challenging the protagonist — aka the Demi-Fiend — to a battle. Upon the conclusion of this battle, Dante will allow the Demi-Fiend to hire him. If hired, Dante becomes a member of the Demi-Fiend’s army of summon-able demons, fighting with guns and swords and dealing powerful physical damage in battle.

However, when Maniax was re-released as Nocturne Maniax Chronicle Edition, the Capcom hero was replaced with Atlus’s own Raidou Kuzunoha XIV, the young protagonist of two Devil Summoner titles. This change was made to promote the re-release of one of the sword-wielding fighter’s own games, Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon. Like Dante, Raidou fights the protagonist before ultimately becoming a recruit-able character.

The upcoming HD remaster of Nocturne is primarily based on Chronicle Edition, meaning that Raidou will appear in the base version of the game. However, Atlus announced a paid DLC “Maniax Pack,” which will replace Raidou with Dante. Also, Dante has received several passive buffs in response to criticism that he was underpowered when compared to Raidou.

The “Maniax Pack” will launch in Japan on October 29, 2020, the game’s launch date. It is currently expected to cost 980 yen or approximately 9 US dollars. It is now unknown whether this DLC will also see a Western release when Nocturne hits US shores in 2021. However, Western fans, who tend to prefer Dante to Raidou, remain hopeful that the DLC will cross the ocean along with the game itself.
