Sony Unveiled the PS5 Media Remote With Entertainment App Buttons

Sony has revealed the PlayStation 5 media remote, which has dedicated buttons for top streaming platforms including Disney+, Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube. Upon launch, Sony’s next-gen console will further support Twitch and Apple TV. The news was confirmed in a PlayStation Blog post by Sony’s Phil Rosenberg, head of Global Partner Development and Relations. The remote has built-in play/pause, fast forward and fast reverse controls, and will allow players to adjust volume and power settings on compatible TVs.

Plus, in case all of the above were not enough, Rosenberg confirmed that the PlayStation 5 would include additional apps such as Amazon Prime Video, MyCanal, Hulu, Peacock, and more. The PS5 features a “dedicated space exclusively for media entertainment.” It’s located alongside the Game home screen, which will allow players to “quickly switch between Game or Media content.”

The media space is also a time-saver, getting rid of download times for entertainment apps through the PS Store (always a pain), of which will be there and waiting in the Media space. Elsewhere, the console features a Control Center, that according to Sony “makes controlling your music easier than ever before, so you can quickly switch between channels, skip, and pause your music.”

In Sony’s recent PlayStation 5 User Experience post via the PlayStation Blog, the tech giants revealed new features for the next-gen console. There are activities, which they say have been “designed to bring you closer to the key elements of gameplay.” Presented via on-screen cards from the Control Center, the feature will help players “discover new gameplay opportunities, go back to things you missed, jump directly into levels or challenges you want to play, and much more.”

Sony has made improvements to the console’s interface, speeding up switching between games and jumping into online matches, as a result of rebuilding “the entire software stack from the console to the network,” bringing players “a truly next-generation experience.”
