Ubisoft Forward: Far Cry 6 Release Date and New Trailers

A release date for Far Cry 6 has been announced. The sixth installment in Ubisoft’s first-person shooter franchise is due for release on February 18, 2021, on both the PS4 and PS5, Xbox One, and Series X, PC, and Google Stadia, as announced today during the Ubisoft Forward event.

Far Cry 6 is set in the fictional country, Yara, run by its president, Anton Castillo, (Giancarlo Esposito), the game’s central villain.

In the reveal trailer, seen below, Castillo hands his son Diego, a grenade. He explains the various parts of the grenade before releasing the pin.

Diego, (played by Anthony Gonzalez), is made to follow his father through the halls of a palace onto a rooftop. It seems Castillo’s rule isn’t going entirely well if the riots outside the palace are anything to go by.

So, it makes for an uneasy watch as Diego navigates his way to the roof behind his father, all the while holding an unpinned grenade. It is hard to listen to Giancarlo Esposito speak, and watch his performance without being fondly reminded of his iconic role in Breaking Bad.

Still, by the reveal trailer alone, his performance is calculated and sinister, all the tropes we’ve come to expect from a Far Cry villain.

Ubisoft further released a cinematic titles sequence trailer for Far Cry 6, as seen below. With the country in turmoil, players will assume the role of Danny Rojas, a guerrilla fighter taking part in the revolution.

Unlike previous games, Danny will be visible in cutscenes, and players will have the option of playing Danny as a male or female.

The recent leak via Hong Kong’s PlayStation Store revealed the key cover art, synopsis, and setting, as well as a release date.
