Cyberpunk 2077 Last Gen Versions Will No Longer Receive New Content

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Cyberpunk 2077 will no longer be receiving new content after today’s Patch 1.6. The patch, which we detailed in an earlier news post, features the final additions of new content for the older consoles. These versions will still be supported with bug fixes, but will not be receiving future free content or the newly announced Phantom Liberty DLC.

The omission of new content has already begun on last generation versions. The patch notes specify that “new secrets to be discovered” added to Night City today are not available on the PS4 or Xbox One versions of the game.

The launch of Cyberpunk 2077 was fraught with bugs and performance issues, especially on the last generation of consoles. The hardware limitations of these consoles severely hampered both the experience of players, as well as the ability of the developers to deliver an ambitious game on the systems. Dropping content support for these consoles will allow the development teams to shift their focus towards the more capable current generation of systems, as well as the PC.

The console performance of Cyberpunk 2077 on release resulted in its removal of the game from the PlayStation Store.

Future content confirmed to be coming to PC and current generation consoles includes the Phantom Liberty expansion, as well as overhauls to the police system and revamped vehicular combat. We hope that this new reduced scope for the developers at CD Projekt Red will result in the polished game we were promised in the marketing season before the final release.

Do you agree with the decision to drop the last generation of systems? Are you looking forward to the future of Cyberpunk 2077? Let us know in the comments below, and keep your eyes on GameLuster for more news.
