A release date for Grand Theft Auto V on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S has been set: November 11, 2021. The announcement was made relatively under the radar, featured at the end of a post from Rockstar concerning upcoming plans relating to the worlds of GTA Online and Red Dead Online. Rockstar further confirmed that “special benefits” will be included within the summer updates to GTA Online “for players to take advantage of in these expanded and enhanced versions when they drop.”
The standalone version of GTA Online is available to players across both platforms, but exclusively free to PS5 players for the first three months post-launch. What this means is, for next-gen players on the Xbox Series X/S, they’ll either have to pay for the standalone version of GTA Online or all of GTA V. PlayStation Plus members are further reminded to claim GTA$1,000,000 each month until the launch of GTA Online on the PS5.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto III, Rockstar announced that they’d have “even more fun surprises to share — including some specifically for GTA Online players.”
Meanwhile, within the world of GTA Online, eight new Stunt Races will be arriving as part of GTA Online’s Stunt Series from May 27, welcoming “an array of white-knuckle thrills for stunt racers in an assortment of vehicle classes.”
Survival Mode will be expanded to new locations across Blaine County and Los Santos, while the futuristic Deadline Mode is set to receive “seven new arenas in which to obliterate opponents with their Shotaro bike’s explosive light trail.”
Over in the Wild West, “eight new Races spanning iconic locations across the five states” will be arriving in the world of Red Dead Online. For those skilled in horseback riding, Red Dead Online will be introducing a wave of new racing competitions from May 25, including Standard, Open, Target, and Open Target Races.
Plus, Red Dead’s summer update will welcome “a diverse array of new missions across the world for those looking to step into the criminal underworld.”
