The Uncharted film has been delayed until February 11, 2022, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter. The film, starring Tom Holland in the iconic role of treasure-hunter Nathan Drake was initially slated for release on July 16, 2021, after it wrapped filming last October.
At the turn of the New Year, the COVID-19 pandemic had significantly worsened throughout the world, with the prospect of movie fans packing out cinema halls unlikely for the foreseeable future.
The Uncharted film has suffered through periods of development hell since its conception in 2008. The arrival and departure of six directors, as well as the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, have caused the biggest setbacks for the production.
The film will further star Mark Wahlberg as Drake’s trusted mentor Victor Sullivan. Sophie Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antoni Banderas is feature in undisclosed roles.
However, the Uncharted adaptation is only one of a number of productions forced to set back their release dates, with MGM announcing that No Time To Die would move from April to October 2021, while Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway moves from April 2 to June 11.
Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife has been pushed back five months, from June 11 to November 11 and Kay Cannon’s Cinderella, due for February 5, 2021, will debut on July 16.
As previously reported, new images from the Uncharted film were released, from a ruby-encrusted cross, which is used as a key in another shot, to cobwebbed statues and a map of the world.

Kantemir Balagov, best known for his 2019 WWII drama Beanpole, has been described by Neil Druckmann as “a brilliant director who shares our love for Joel and Ellie’s journey. Stoked that he’s joining the TloU family.”
