Sony has announced the PlayStation Plus Essential free games for May 2026, and subscribers can claim Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, EA Sports FC 26, and Nine Sols from May 5 through midnight on June 1. It’s a lineup that leads with a genuine surprise – Wuchang: Fallen Feathers released less than a year ago, which is a fast turnaround by PS Plus Essential standards.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is the clear headliner – a PS5-only action RPG set in a dark, mythology-soaked vision of Ming Dynasty China, drawing frequent comparisons to FromSoftware’s output for its demanding combat and atmospheric world-building. Landing on Essential less than twelve months after launch makes it arguably the freshest headline title the tier has offered in recent memory. Fair warning: it is not an easy game.
EA Sports FC 26 is available on both PS5 and PS4, and if you’ve been on the fence about dipping into the current football season, this is a no-cost entry point that’s hard to argue with. It’s the kind of addition that looks straightforward on paper but quietly ends up eating hundreds of hours for the right kind of player.
Rounding out the trio is Nine Sols – a PS5 and PS4 action platformer from Red Candle Games that blends Sekiro-inspired parry-focused combat with a striking hand-drawn aesthetic rooted in Taoist mythology. It’s been a cult favourite since launch and a genuinely smart addition for anyone who missed it first time around.
Here’s the full May 2026 PS Plus Essential lineup:
- Wuchang: Fallen Feathers (PS5)
- EA Sports FC 26 (PS5, PS4)
- Nine Sols (PS5, PS4)
Worth noting before you move on: if you haven’t claimed April’s games yet – Lords of the Fallen, Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream, and Tomb Raider I-III Remastered – you have until Monday night, May 4, to grab them. You can find the full breakdown in our PlayStation Plus Essential April 2026 coverage.
May’s lineup skews heavily PS5 with Wuchang as an exclusive to the newer console – continuing Sony’s gradual push toward prioritising its current hardware. Two of the three games also carry real challenge-curve caveats, which gives this month a distinct flavour. If you’re planning to claim and download, it’s also worth being aware of the PS5 digital game expiry bug that Sony has yet to formally address, which has affected some subscribers’ libraries.
