Capcom has rolled out a new update for Dragon’s Dogma 2 on all platforms, replacing the game’s single graphics setting with separate Prioritize Graphics and Prioritize Performance modes – with the performance option targeting a 50–60 FPS range on PS5 and Xbox Series X, as confirmed by the official Dragon’s Dogma account on October 17, 2024.
Here’s the context: Dragon’s Dogma 2 launched in early 2024 to strong sales – surpassing 2.5 million copies in just over a week – but faced performance issues after release, with players frequently reporting frame rate drops and crashes, especially on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Although these problems lingered for a while, Capcom recently issued a patch allowing players to prioritise graphics quality or performance. This update changes the options within the Graphics section of the Options menu and raises the frame rate target to a 50–60 FPS range in performance mode. We previously covered earlier player-focused changes to the game – a pattern of post-launch responsiveness that continues here.

Honestly, this is the update many players have been waiting for. A 30 FPS cap on current-generation hardware was always difficult to justify for an action RPG where combat readability and enemy-stagger timing matter as much as they do in Dragon’s Dogma 2. The end result is what counts, and a 50–60 FPS range in performance mode represents a meaningful improvement over what shipped. This is also a model other studios should pay attention to: consistent post-launch support, including the kind of 60 FPS next-gen upgrades that players have come to expect from live titles, does measurable work to rebuild goodwill after a rough launch.
The update includes a detailed platform-specific chart covering the resolution and frame rate targets for each mode across all supported hardware. Here is what the chart specifies:
- PS5 / Xbox Series X – Prioritize Performance – 1728p resolution, 50–60 FPS
- PS5 / Xbox Series X – Prioritize Graphics – 2160p resolution, 30–40 FPS
- Xbox Series S – resolution and frame rate targets included in the official chart
- PC – resolution and frame rate targets included in the official chart
The Prioritize Graphics mode at 2160p / 30–40 FPS is a reasonable trade-off for players who prioritise image quality over fluidity, and having both options available simultaneously is a straightforward quality-of-life win. Frame rate inconsistency has been a recurring friction point across the industry – as seen with other titles where performance issues have shaped the player experience at launch – and formalising that choice in the options menu is the right call.

What remains to be seen is how the performance mode holds up in practice. The official announcement targets 50–60 FPS in performance mode rather than a locked 60 FPS, which suggests there is still some variability depending on the situation. Whether the frame rate tends to sit closer to 50 or 60 FPS will depend on community testing across the coming days.
What to watch: Capcom is doing an excellent job of improving the game months after its release. Whether further performance refinements arrive down the line – and how the game performs on the PS5 Pro given its enhanced specs – are the two most immediate questions worth tracking.
