Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch as a single-player experience at its $79.99 base price on November 19, 2026. That leaves the existing GTA Online as Rockstar’s focus for now, according to IGN.
Here’s the context: Rockstar confirmed GTA 6’s single-player status to IGN, and the PlayStation Store lists the game as single-player only. The announcement does not rule out a future new version of GTA Online, but Rockstar has not announced one or explained how it would be released.
Digital pre-orders through the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store include one free month of GTA+ for the current GTA Online experience. Rockstar said the offer includes a recurring monthly deposit of GTA$500,000 into a player’s GTA Online character bank account, as well as access to special Shark Cards with bonus GTA$, GTA Online vehicle offers, and other GTA+ benefits.
Existing GTA Online remains the focus
The current version of GTA Online remains available on PC, while GTA 6 will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S without a PC release on day one. IGN reported that GTA Online continues to make substantial money for Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive, and its PC availability could help it retain momentum as GTA 6 arrives on console.
Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick previously pointed to NBA 2K Online as an example of maintaining older and newer online games at the same time. NBA 2K Online launched in 2012, followed by NBA 2K Online 2 in 2017, and both games remained available. Zelnick said Take-Two supports its properties when consumers remain engaged with them and has shown a willingness to support legacy titles when their communities want to keep playing.
That precedent suggests continued support for GTA Online is possible if its community remains active, but it does not confirm a GTA Online successor or establish when one might arrive. Rockstar’s current messaging instead directs pre-order benefits toward the existing service while GTA 6 launches as a standalone single-player game.
What remains unclear
Rockstar has not disclosed a timeline for a next-generation GTA Online experience. It also has not said whether a future release would be included with GTA 6, offered as a standalone product, or sold separately. The future scope and timing of support for the current GTA Online likewise remain unclear.
For now, the available information points to GTA 6 and GTA Online operating separately at launch: GTA 6 as a single-player release, and GTA Online as the existing online experience receiving GTA+ pre-order benefits. Future official Rockstar announcements and Take-Two updates may provide more detail on what comes next for the long-running multiplayer game.
