War in the North Legacy Edition Adds Co-op Upgrades on PS5

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition, a remaster of Snowblind Studios’ 2011 co-op action RPG, is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game costs $19.99, with a 10% launch discount available through August 24, as detailed by PlayStation LifeStyle.

The Legacy Edition preserves the original game’s co-op action RPG experience while adding optimized performance and tailored controls. Players can also purchase the PC version through Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. The game became available on August 11 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2, while the Nintendo EU eShop launch is set for August 18, 2026.

Co-op and modern upgrades

War in the North supports co-op for up to three players online or two players through local split-screen. The remaster includes UI and UX improvements, including visible Health, Mana, and EXP bars for party members, as well as refined enemy targeting and a new autosave feature.

Other additions include gyro control support on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2, 60 FPS gameplay, and numerous bug fixes based on player feedback. A new Hot-Swapping feature allows players to switch between characters on the fly and assign equipment, skills, and abilities to computer-controlled allies.

The Nintendo Switch version includes the UI and control improvements, but it does not support local co-op or 60 FPS gameplay.

What the Legacy Edition retains

The remaster revives the 2011 game developed by Snowblind Studios, which centers on a three-character party and co-op RPG progression. Players can develop characters through skills, abilities, weapons, and armor while exploring locations including Rivendell, Lórien, the Lonely Mountain, and Mirkwood.
