Dark Souls 2 and 3 online features disabled across all platforms

FromSoftware confirmed on October 30 that it has temporarily disabled the online servers for Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, leaving co-op multiplayer, invasions, player messages and other network features unavailable, the developer announced. The studio attributed the shutdown only to an unspecified “server issue” and gave no timeline for a fix.

Both games remain playable offline, so single-player campaigns can still be finished while the outage continues. The disruption appears limited to these two titles; there is no indication that Dark Souls Remastered or Elden Ring multiplayer has been affected, though FromSoftware has not confirmed the outage’s full scope.

Not the first time Souls multiplayer has vanished

The shutdown echoes January 2022, when FromSoftware disabled multiplayer across the PC versions of the original Dark Souls trilogy after a serious security vulnerability came to light. That restoration took months per title: Dark Souls 3 returned in August 2022, Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin in October 2022, and Dark Souls Remastered in November 2022.

FromSoftware has said only “server issue” and has not said whether restoration will be staggered by title, as it was in 2022.

What players can still do

On PC, community modder Yui, best known for the Elden Ring Seamless Co-op mod, has built similar mods for Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 that appear to bypass the official servers, letting players keep summoning friends into their worlds. Console players have no equivalent workaround; their options are single-player play or waiting.

Dark Souls 3 remains listed on Steam at 59.99 euro, and Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin at 39.99 euro, prices unchanged by the outage. FromSoftware’s last word on the servers came in its October 30 announcement, and no restoration date has been given.
