10 Video Game Releases You Won’t Want To Miss: May 2023

It’s no secret that for most people, May is going to be dedicated to one game only – The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, for the two people who won’t be playing, we’ve compiled a list of some other video game releases for May! From vampire hunting to horror set during WW1, this upcoming month has it all. 

Redfall

Redfall is an upcoming first-person shooter by Arkane Studios. Despite a series of delays, the vampire-hunting FPS is due to release on May 2. Pick one of four characters each with unique abilities and hunt the vampire denizens who infest the town of Redfall. Either solo or with a group of four, explore the open-world, help survivors and stop the vampires before they bleed the town dry.

Darkest Dungeon 2

The sequel to Darkest Dungeon is set to leave early access on May 9. This roguelike road trip combines four heroes, a stagecoach and a mission to stop the apocalypse. Choose your team by picking through a roster of heroes who bring their own unique abilities to the team and then go head-to-head in turn-based combat. Form relationships, plan your assaults and battle unique creatures all in Darkest Dungeon 2.

Midautumn

Midautumn is a rogue-like dungeon crawler set in a supernatural world. Play as Robin Lam who only planned to crash at their grandmother’s house. However, it isn’t long before she is thrust into a world of evil spirits who she must banish in order to save the town from gentrification. Exploring Asian diaspora culture, Midautumn combines elements of the popular Hades to create an epic and exciting tale due to launch on May 9.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Where would this list be without the game of May? The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is finally set for launch on May 12, so get ready to not hear from your friends for a few weeks. This instalment in the Zelda franchise follows Link on his adventures across the land and skies of Hyrule. With new abilities that make crafting, combat and traversal more exciting (not to mention the reappearance of Ganondorf), it is set to be an epic sequel to Breath of the Wild.

Amnesia: The Bunker

For the horror fans out there, Amnesia: The Bunker is the fourth instalment in the Amnesia series and it is coming on May 16. This first-person horror is set in an eerie World War 1 bunker that is currently being stalked by some malicious figures. Search for weapons and loot for items that can help you survive but make sure you make it out alive. However, every choice has a consequence.

Humanity 

For fans of Shiba Inu dogs and crowd control, look no further than Humanity which release on May 16. This puzzle-solving action-platforming game sees you play as a dog capable of controlling a large crowd of people. Make them jump, run and swim in order to overcome a series of obstacles. For those who are feeling creative, you can also design your own levels.

V Rising – Secrets of Gloomrot

The much-loved vampire survival game V Rising is getting an expansion on May 17. Secrets of Gloomrot will add a massive new zone twisted by the pursuit of science and polluted by the monstrous remains. With 13 new bosses, 30 new enemy types, new legendary weapon and much more, this expansion is set to bring a lot of new content to the already great game.

The Outlast Trials

The much-loved (or feared) Outlast series is getting a new instalment on May 18. This first-person psychological horror survival game is set during the Cold War and this time, you can try and survive with friends. In a time where human guinea pigs were sought after, you and your friends must try and survive the experiments done against you. Can your sanity and endurance make it through?

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to play as Gollum on the hunt for his Precious? Well, wonder no more because you can as of May 25. Take on the role of Gollum as you climb the mountains of Mordor and sneak through Mirkwood. The action-adventure interactive experience will tell the untold story of the sharp-witted Gollum on his epic adventure.

System Shock

The remake to the 1994 first-person action adventure game is set for release on May 30. System Shock is a fight to the death in the depths of space as you go against SHODAN, the evil AI that has taken control of the Citadel Station. Your job is to battle the hordes of cyborgs and mutants before SHODAN turns her sights to Earth.
