Famitsu: Luigi’s Mansion 2 Holds Strong, Animal Crossing Sales Boom

Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers July 1 – 7, as Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD kept the top spot for a second week in a row. The Switch remake of the 3DS’s Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon managed to cling onto #1 thanks to a drop of just 62% from its debut last week, and selling just shy of 34,000 more copies.

As for the rest of the chart, it’s mostly a bunch of classic Nintendo Switch titles carrying on their evergreen sales. Interestingly, after Animal Crossing: New Horizons rose to #2 last week, it’s once again held the spot, and even surged an additional 22% in sales, selling almost 11,000 copies. It’s a surprising renewed popularity for the already hugely popular game, which has sold 7.82 million totals physically in Japan alone.
