Our favorite racing game of the year is here, as Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds speeds towards a global release following its early access launch! If you’ve just started up the game, you might find yourself questioning something in the menus – what is the Friendship tab, and why is it locked?
If you’ve found yourself wondering the same thing then you’re in the right place, as we’re going to break down exactly how to unlock that menu and what’s hiding behind it. Read on for our easy and simple breakdown of exactly what Friendships are in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
To unlock the Friendships mechanic, you need to have completed all seven of the main Grand Prix races. After completing them all, you’ll encounter a bunch of dialogue with Dodon Pa following the credits rolling. As part of his dialogue, he’ll inform you that the Friendship menu has been unlocked and you can dive in to get some rewards.

So how does it work? Well, once you’ve unlocked Friendships, you’ll be presented with a screen of every official Sonic racer in the game. Each one of them can be gifted Donpa Tickets which will reward you with new cosmetic items based on that racer for each milestone tier of gifted tickets you meet. This starts with a player title based on your chosen friend, and progresses through to sticker decals for your chosen character and more – but we won’t ruin all the surprises here! But trust us, there’s a lot to discover in deepening your friendships with the Sonic crew and you’d be grinding away for months to find them all.
Now you know how to unlock the Friendship system and what treats are awaiting you, will you be going to complete all the Grand Prix races?
