Crimson Desert PS5 Patch Adds Difficulty Options and Visual Upgrades

Crimson Desert has received its biggest update yet on PS5 – a hefty 29GB patch that finally brings difficulty options and meaningful visual improvements to Pearl Abyss’s open world action title. Update 1.04 is available to download now, and players are already singing its praises.

The headline addition is a proper difficulty system. Alongside the existing Normal setting, Easy mode reduces damage taken, dials back enemy health, aggression, and speed, and extends the timing windows for Parry and Dodge – a genuine lifeline for players who’ve been bouncing off the combat. Hard mode flips everything the other way: tighter parry windows, reduced invincibility on rolls, faster and more aggressive enemies, and entirely new combat patterns for certain bosses, which should give veterans something to sink their teeth into. The update also adds boss fight replays, improved item storage that lets players sort collectibles and outfits separately, and – perhaps most importantly – five additional cats scattered across the world.

On the visual side, Pearl Abyss confirmed they’ve improved “the rendering quality of distant objects and textures,” with higher graphics settings delivering noticeably sharper details at range. Character quality at longer distances has been cleaned up too, hair lighting in shaded areas looks better, and the flickering that some players flagged at launch has been reduced. Before-and-after comparisons from the community are already circulating, and the difference is impressive.

Crimson Desert sold 5 million copies in under a month following its 2026 launch, and Pearl Abyss has maintained an aggressive patch cadence since day one – this is the fourth major update in just a few weeks. If you’re a PS5 owner keeping an eye on what’s new across Sony’s platform, it’s shaping up to be a strong spring alongside other PlayStation offerings this April. More updates are expected to continue on a roughly bi-weekly schedule into May.
