The Elder Scrolls VI is reportedly subtitled Sentinel, and the reveal could come in November

The Elder Scrolls VI is reportedly subtitled Sentinel, and Bethesda could officially announce the title as soon as November, according to reporting by Tom Warren at The Verge that cites sources familiar with the studio’s plans.

Bethesda Game Studios and Xbox have confirmed nothing, and every load-bearing claim here traces to that one report, published October 29, 2026. Ten outlets relayed it the same day. None add independent confirmation.

What the report claims

Beyond the subtitle, the reported full title would be The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, and the game would be set in Hammerfell, the western region of Tamriel that has appeared in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard and The Elder Scrolls Online but has never anchored a mainline game. The report also says the story would be about the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves, the ancient artifacts the series is named for, and the secrets they hold.

If it lands, the announcement would be the first substantive reveal since Bethesda teased The Elder Scrolls VI at E3 in June 2018, nearly eight years ago. Only the name is expected next month, per the report, with everything else held back.

The eight asterisks that started it

The report follows an earlier tease from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. On August 11, 2026, Sharma said on X that she had watched a live playthrough of “The Elder Scrolls VI: ********,” redacting the subtitle with eight asterisks. “The scale and grandeur are incredible. The story is even greater,” she wrote.

Fans quickly counted the asterisks and landed on Sentinel, an eight-letter name that belongs to a major city on Hammerfell’s Iliac Bay, the region long suspected to be the game’s setting. The word Sentinel had also been spotted in Starfield, though nothing confirms that was a deliberate nod.

A November window, and a crowded one

The reported reveal could line up with the 15th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on November 11, or possibly with Xbox’s own 25th anniversary. Skyrim, still the series’ last mainline release, has sold over 65 million copies, per Bethesda.

A November title drop would also place the announcement beside Rockstar’s GTA 6, which launches November 19. Bethesda developers said in July that recent mass layoffs across Xbox would have a “substantial and cascading effect” on the game’s development and the team’s morale. Todd Howard, asked the same month about platform exclusivity, said it was too early to comment.
