Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. We sadly had to miss last week as the chart was unavailable during Japan’s Golden Week holiday period – but that means this week’s chart is twice as big and combines two into one! This week’s chart covers April 22 – May 5, as Stellar Blade secures a top-spot debut, amongst a bunch of new releases.
Stellar Blade took first place thanks to over 67,000 sales on its exclusive PS5 platform. It managed to beat out other newcomers such as RPG Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes and adventure game Endless Ocean: Luminous. The latest SaGa franchise entry SaGa Emerald Beyond also made its debut at #6 with its Nintendo Switch release.
As this week covers two charts, the hardware sales are also interesting to see. The Nintendo Switch, which is over seven years old, sold more than 100,000 units in the past two weeks. The PS5, a much newer console, shifted less than half of these numbers. There’s just no stopping the Switch.
Here’s the full Famitsu software sales chart for April 22 – May 5. Missed our last report before Golden Week where Mario Kart 8 Deluxe climbed back to the top spot, seven years since its launch? Check out the last Famitsu chart right here!
