Yesterday, the official Pokémon Twitter tweeted out that there would be a Pokémon news broadcast to coincide with the Pokémon Sword and Shield Isle of Armor release. This stream, called Pokémon Presents, was at 6am Pacific Time and was about 10 minutes of new Pokémon information, including the reveal of several new titles.
The first announcement in Pokémon Presents was a reveal for a new phone app, called Pokémon Smile. This is a free app for iPhone and Android aimed more at parents who have trouble getting their kids to brush their teeth. Pokémon Smile lets kids brush their teeth to save and capture Pokémon by using the phone’s front camera to create an AR experience. The app is available now.
The next announcement is for another new project, this time a game for mobile and Nintendo Switch. The game is called Pokémon Café Mix, a puzzle game where players must solve puzzles to complete café orders for wild Pokémon. The gameplay style is similar to the Disney Tsum-Tsum game’s style, where players connect Pokémon icons by sliding across them. As your café grows, you can get Pokémon to become your assistants, and they can help you during the puzzles. The game is free to start, but has in-app purchases. Pokémon Café Mix is available to preload for the Nintendo Switch and preregister on mobile devices now. No release date was specified, but it will be “available soon”.
Pokémon Presents then shows a trailer for another upcoming Pokémon game for the Nintendo Switch. This is the long-anticipated sequel to the fan-favorite Pokémon Snap, the Pokémon photography game released on the Nintendo 64 over 20 years ago. This version, called New Pokémon Snap, features new areas and Pokémon for players to photograph. There is currently no release date.
The stream then takes some time to address the recent changes to Pokémon GO—namely, the remote raiding, increased gift storage, and daily research, as well as the changes that allow players to play while staying home. Pokémon GO Fest will also be completely virtual this year, and Victini and Mega Evolution will be appearing in the game sometime this year. Finally, for the release of the Pokémon Sword and Shield DLC, Galarian Farfetch’d will be appearing in Pokémon GO for a limited time starting today, and all players receive a version of the Isle of Armor Training Clothes for their Pokémon GO avatars.
Also to coincide with the release of The Isle of Armor, there is a new Max Raid Battle event coming to Pokémon Sword and Shield. All players will get a chance to challenge the Mythical Pokémon Zeraora in Max Raid Battles from June 17th until June 28th. Like the previous Mewtwo raid event, Zeraora will be extremely high-leveled and powerful, so trainers will need their best Pokémon to challenge it. Zeraora will also not be able to be captured at the end of the battles, but if one million players defeat Zeraora in Raids, a Shiny Zeraora will be given to all players via the mobile version of Pokémon Home. This is the first time Zeraora’s Shiny has been made available in any games.
The Pokémon Presents stream ends with a tease for another big Pokémon project that is in the works. More information about this project will be revealed on the next Pokémon Presents, on June 24th.
