Mario Kart producer would like a track editor in the series future.

As different as we all are in this world, sometimes we all have similar wants especially if you are part of the Mario Kart fan base. In the case of Mario Kart franchise we all want to see a track editor put into a Mario Kart game. Lets face it there are a number of people who would love to use the tools of the Mushroom Kingdom and build up their own courses. For once we also know the games producer wants the same thing.

In a recent interview Hideki Konno producer of the Mario Kart series has said he would love to a track editor implemented into the next Mario Kart game. So the real question is why haven’t we seen it yet, Hideki Konno explained this:

When we work on a Mario Kart title we work on courses… again, and again, and again, and we revise until we come up with something that we think is going to be fun for everyone to play over and over again. So we have a lot of confidence in our ability to do so, but we understand what a tough challenge it is to create those courses.

I just don’t know that at this point we’re able to do that at a level that would satisfy anyone, myself included, or the customer. Someday, if we can come up with a solution and implement it in a way that makes everyone happy…we’ll come back to that issue and maybe re-address it.

Would you have thought about it being that difficult to make courses for the Mario Kart games, well at least we can understand his response as everyone would need to enjoy it. But still I can’t help but think if they could get it right all of the online players would be using Miiverse to pass on their course deigns and each would constantly have fun in competition. The way of the world these days because of Smart phones nearly everyone wants to edit rules or build their own content. Konno continued to say about being able to customize rules.

We’re going to have some rule customization for folks who want to be able to go in and set that up for themselves. Game balance is a really important element of Mario Kart that we look very, very closely at and place a lot of value on.

We may not be getting a Track Editor at this stage but at least we know that the Mario Kart producers are open to expanding on the core experience of the franchise and even letting us play our particular way. It goes without saying that Mario Kart has a bright future ahead.
