Capcom used Gamescom Opening Night Live to debut a new gameplay trailer for Mega Man: Dual Override, offering another look at the Blue Bomber in action. The trailer introduces Twinkle Girl, identified as the game’s first Robot Master, and ends with updated key art featuring Proto Man, Mega Man’s longtime frenemy. Mega Man: Dual Override is due in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, according to Game Informer.
Twinkle Girl and Mega Man’s new suit
The footage shows Mega Man battling Dr. Wily’s machines before facing Twinkle Girl, who has a whimsical appearance despite serving as an antagonist. Mega Man also appears in a new suit that may be the power gained from defeating Twinkle Girl or a separate transformation comparable to armor sets in Mega Man X.
New systems and special weapons
Additional details reported by Gematsu outline the new Override and Custom Chip systems. Override temporarily lets robots exceed their normal capabilities, but characters experience a temporary loss in performance after the boost ends. The Custom Chip system is described as a way to add abilities and tailor playstyles.
- Override System: A temporary power boost followed by a temporary performance loss.
- Custom Chip System: A personalization system with upgrades including rapid-fire, a protective shield bubble, and hover abilities.
- Special weapons: Weapons that consume energy and offer strategic advantages; the trailer previews one that combines a charge attack with an aerial dash.
Mega Man: Dual Override is scheduled for release in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
