Nintendo Direct Reveals More About Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield’s Isle of Armor

Some more details about the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass were revealed during Nintendo’s surprise March 26 Direct. These details pertain to the first wave of DLC, The Isle of Armor.

When players arrive at the Isle, they begin training in a dojo alongside the Legendary Pokémon, Kubfoo. When their training is complete, Trainers and their Kubfoo must embark on one final challenge: they must climb the Tower of Two Fists alone. There are two different towers: The Tower of Water and the Tower of Darkness. Trainers can choose which tower to climb, and the different towers enable Kubfoo to evolve into two different forms—if Water, it evolves into the Water and Fighting-type Rapid-Strike Style Urshifu, and if Darkness, it evolves into the Dark and Fighting-type Single-Strike Style Urshifu.

After completing the towers, Trainers will also be given an opportunity to have their evolved starter Pokémon have a Gigantamax form. Each of the starter Pokémon has its own G-Max Move: G-Max Drum Solo for Rillaboom, G-Max Fireball for Cinderace, and G-Max Hydrosnipe for Intelleon. The additional effect of all three moves is identical: these moves bypass the Ability of the enemy Pokémon.

The DLC also comes with a few cosmetic bonuses. Trainers who purchase the DLC can access new hairstyles, clothing, and League Card poses and backgrounds. As a bonus, buying the DLC before August 31 gives Trainers a version of Champion Leon’s signature hat and tights.

The Isle of Armor Expansion Pass for Pokémon Sword and Shield is slated to release for the Nintendo Switch before the end of June this year, with another expansion, The Crown Tundra, coming by the end of the year.
