Nodusfall Pits Four-Player Weavers Against Mythic Beasts

HoYoverse revealed Nodusfall, a co-op action game centered on teams of players called Weavers battling divine beasts, during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. Presenter Geoff Keighley described it as a mythical action game, as reported by GamesRadar.

A darker direction for HoYoverse

HoYoverse is known for anime-styled games including Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero, while Nodusfall takes a markedly different visual direction. Trailer footage showed Weavers using bows, greatswords, a longsword, and magic. One ability appeared to revive allies, while another transformed the player into a divine being.

The trailer’s bosses drew comparisons to enemies from Elden Ring, including Malenia and Hoarah Loux, as well as Dark Souls 3’s Nameless King. HoYoverse has also explored more realistic art styles through recent projects and job listings, including the anime-free MMO project reportedly codenamed Genesis. Nodusfall similarly presents a detailed fantasy style that differs from the studio’s established games.

Co-op combat and mythic enemies

Gameplay snippets woven into the trailer’s cutscenes suggested that squads of four players will coordinate during boss fights. In one apparent scripted sequence, two Weavers teamed up to land a finishing blow on a boss’s dragon mount.

The creatures shown included a horned lion, a nine-tailed fox spirit, an armored bear, a fiery archdemon, and a feral hog. Alongside the large-scale boss encounters, that lineup gives Nodusfall a Monster Hunter-like co-op hunting feel, while its enemy designs and combat presentation have prompted Souls-like comparisons.

Monetization and release details remain unconfirmed

A central unanswered question is how Nodusfall will be monetized. HoYoverse’s games have used gacha systems in some form, and those systems can affect storytelling and progression. The reveal did not confirm whether Nodusfall will follow that model or take a different approach.

HoYoverse also has not announced a release date or platforms for Nodusfall. The footage established its darker fantasy setting and co-op focus, but many of the details that will define the game remain to be announced.

What to watch

For now, the trailer is the clearest indication of what HoYoverse is aiming for: coordinated Weaver squads, towering mythic enemies, and a fantasy presentation distinct from the publisher’s anime-styled catalog. Comparisons to Elden Ring and Monster Hunter are likely to remain a useful shorthand until HoYoverse shares more about the game.

Does a darker art style change how you feel about a HoYoverse game, or is gacha monetization the deciding factor? Nodusfall’s future details will determine how closely its finished form matches the promise of its reveal.
