PlayStation Plus Essential Free Games for May 2026 Have Been Revealed

Sony has confirmed the PlayStation Plus Essential free games for May 2026, and subscribers can claim EA Sports FC 26, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, and Nine Sols right now – all three went live on May 5 and are claimable through June 2, 2026. The standout here is Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, which only launched in October 2025, making it one of the fastest turnarounds from release to PS Plus Essential in recent memory.

EA Sports FC 26 is the obvious crowd-pleaser – EA‘s successor to the long-running FIFA series, packed with real-life teams, leagues, and players across PS5 and PS4. As a bonus, PS Plus members also receive an EA Sports FC 26 PlayStation Plus Icons Pack, redeemable until the game rotates out next month – so don’t sit on that one. With the FIFA World Cup on the horizon, the timing is genuinely smart.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, developed by Leenzee and published by 505 Games, is a wuxia-flavored souls-like set during the crumbling final years of China’s Ming Dynasty. Players master an arsenal of weapons, fight grotesque creatures, and unravel the mystery behind a phenomenon called Feathering that’s transforming people into monsters. Fair warning: this is a demanding game built squarely in the FromSoftware tradition – gorgeous and brutal in equal measure, and currently PS5-only.

Nine Sols rounds out the trio as a Sekiro-inspired 2D action-platformer with deep metroidvania roots, following a vengeful hero on a mission to bring down nine powerful rulers. The hand-drawn art is stunning, the parry-focused combat is razor-sharp, and a major update last year added new boss rematches and quality-of-life improvements. It launched at $24.99 and holds a 94% positive rating on Steam from over 12,500 reviews – this one is genuinely unmissable if you haven’t played it yet.

Here’s the full May 2026 PS Plus Essential lineup:

  • EA Sports FC 26 (PS5, PS4)
  • Wuchang: Fallen Feathers (PS5)
  • Nine Sols (PS5, PS4)

Worth noting before you move on: April 2026‘s games – Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, PGA Tour 2K25, and Lords of the Fallen – are still claimable until June 2, so make sure you’ve added those to your library before they rotate out. Full details on that lineup are in our April 2026 PS Plus Essential coverage.

Here’s the broader read, though – two of May’s three games are souls-adjacent and unambiguously challenging, which makes this one of the more demanding monthly drops PS Plus Essential has put together in a while. Wuchang being PS5-only also continues the pattern we flagged last month, where Sony is gradually pushing the service toward current-gen exclusivity. If you want the full picture of where PS Plus is heading as a subscription, our coverage of Sony’s PS Plus day-one launch strategy is worth a read alongside this month’s drop.

Which of the three are you claiming first – or does Nine Sols finally convince you that 2D metroidvanias deserve a permanent spot in your rotation? Sound off in the comments below, and keep your eyes on GameLuster for more breaking gaming news and PlayStation Plus coverage.
