Pokémon Day 2020: New Pokémon and Fan Favorites!

Today is the 24th anniversary of the Pokémon series, and, as usual, The Pokémon Company has made several announcements.

First off is the introduction of a new Mythical Pokémon. This Pokémon’s silhouette had was in the Japanese magazine CoroCoro a few weeks prior, but now its design and type have been revealed. Its name is Zarude, the Rogue Monkey Pokémon, and it is a dual Grass and Dark Type monkey-esque Pokémon that lives in packs deep within forests in Galar. It is temperamental towards those not in its pack and will lash out at them by creating vines. Yet, no details on how to get this Pokémon were detailed in the announcement.

Pokémon Day is also being celebrated in a few other ways around the internet. Pokémon Sword and Shield will feature new difficult Max Raid Battles featuring Mewtwo, as well as Max Raid Battles of the Kanto starters. Worldwide, Netflix has released Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution, a remake of the first Pokémon movie that premiered in Japan last year. Pokémon GO is also running an event to tie in for both Pokémon Day and the release of the movie. This event will include Raid Battles featuring the “Clone” starter Pokémon and Armored Mewtwo. Also included are the Kanto Starters, Eevee, and Pikachu decked out in party hats.
