Videocult‘s Rain World is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 through Rain World Anthology Edition, a physical release that bundles the base game with its Downpour and The Watcher expansions. Publisher Akupara Games announced the edition during its first game showcase, as reported by Polygon.
Physical versions are also planned for PlayStation 5 and the original Nintendo Switch. Akupara Games is working with Serenity Forge on the release, which will be offered in standard and Collector’s Edition forms.
Rain World combines a cinematic, Limbo-like puzzle platformer with survival-game pressure. Players control a slugcat exploring a post-apocalyptic world, foraging for food, fighting other animals, and reaching hibernation spots before deadly rain arrives. Its tension and difficulty have helped establish the game as a cult classic among players drawn to that demanding approach.
Context Block
The central detail of the announcement is the collection itself. Rain World Anthology Edition brings together the original game, Downpour, and The Watcher in one physical package. For Nintendo hardware, it marks the first physical package to include the full Rain World collection rather than only the original game.
The standard edition will include an embossed slip cover. The Collector’s Edition includes an art book, scarf, keychain, standee, sticker sheet, and soundtrack. These editions give players a choice between a more straightforward physical release and a version built around additional collectible items.
Here is what has been confirmed so far:
- Platforms – Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5
- Included content – Rain World, Downpour, and The Watcher
- Standard Edition – embossed slip cover
- Collector’s Edition – art book, scarf, keychain, standee, sticker sheet, and soundtrack
The announcement establishes the platforms, the bundled content, and the broad outline of both physical editions. It does not provide a release window. It also does not detail Switch 2-specific resolution, frame-rate, visual, or performance enhancements, so any technical differences between the Switch 2 edition and other versions remain unconfirmed.
The anthology format is particularly relevant for players who have encountered only the base game on Nintendo Switch. The new release is positioned as a physical way to access the base game and both expansions together, while also bringing the series to Nintendo Switch 2.
Editorial Verdict
A physical anthology is a fitting format for a game whose reputation rests on its distinctive atmosphere, survival systems, and committed audience. Bringing the base game, Downpour, and The Watcher together in one physical package makes the announcement more substantial than a platform port alone.
For now, the practical details remain limited. Akupara Games has confirmed the collection, its platforms, and the items associated with the standard and Collector’s Editions, but a release window has not been set. Players interested in the Nintendo Switch 2 version can reasonably watch for further information on availability and any platform-specific features.
Whether the standard edition or the Collector’s Edition is the better fit will depend on how much value players place on the extra physical items. What is already clear is that Rain World Anthology Edition will offer a single physical package containing the original game and both expansions across Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5.
