It’s a new season of Fortnite, as the MEGA season is here. This season’s Battle Pass and Island are heavily influenced by anime and Japanese culture. There are some big swings being taken with these designs, delivering a few hits and a few misses. We’re going to show you each new character skin introduced in the Battle Pass, and order them from worst to best.
To make the list easier to read, we’re going to combine skin styles for each skin and judge them as a whole package. Without further ado, let’s rank these Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 skins!
8. Thunder
This skin is very weird. I like weird skins, but this one is almost too weird. Reminiscent of the Fabio Sparklemane unicorn skin, this humanoid lizard just weirds me out a bit. The outfit looks great, but the way he sticks out his tongue reminds me a little too much that this is an actual lizard man. It’s not the worst skin in Fortnite history, but it’s a little off-putting. Some of the variant styles look better.
7. Mystica
Mystica looks mysterious with the interesting color combinations and the moody fog effects. That being said, the head is a bit… Megamind. While it certainly doesn’t disturb in quite the same way as Thunder, I feel there’s something left to be desired on the top of the head to complete the look. Maybe if the fog effects covered the entire head it’d work better.
6. Highwire
Fortnite did this for the furries. Whilst the Highwire original style skin is way more subtle about it, adopting the Pack Leader style makes it clear this is a furry-inspired skin. Whilst that’s not exactly my cup of tea, I can’t deny it looks good. The mask is full of attitude, the stance is full of personality and the colors look wonderful together. I’m impressed with this one.
5. Imani
Imani might be the most toned-down skin in this Battle Pass, but it absolutely works. She’s confident and stylish, the anime textures really make her pop in-game, and her styles give her lots of different vibes to work with. I can feel who Imani is as a person through her presentation, and that says a lot about her and the Fortnite team that worked on her skin.
4. Renzo
Renzo the Destroyer looks great. The way that their left eye sparkles occasionally delivers a sharpness to the character that’s almost as sharp as the outfit. The flaming mane coming out of the head reminds me of the flaming mane of Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Renzo’s are colored in a more cohesive way to match the character. It’s both futuristic and old-timey, meaning this skin will always be in style.
3. Eren
The big crossover of the season, Eren’s skin stays loyal to his Attack on Titan origins, whilst updating his model for Fortnite. What sticks out to me the most is the anime-style texture work going on with Eren. It feels much, much sharper than past anime collaborations. Perhaps there’s been some changes there, or perhaps its the dark colors of his hair and clothing works better with these solid anime outlines. Your mileage may vary given your feelings on the source material, but this is a solid skin.
2. Stray
Full disclosure, Drift is one of my favorite skins in all of Fortnite. The new Stray skin has outfits to recreate Drift’s iconic masked look in new styles, such as in the above Renegade style. The pink, white and gold is incredibly clean, and very visually effective. The skin’s animated lightning effects crackle out of Stray’s eyes, and pull your own to the character. This is an excellent skin, and one I’ll be running for a while. It’s not the most original though, and that’s why number one goes to…
1. Mizuki
This is a truly fantastic skin. It’s confident, elegant, regal, fun, and fierce. The coloring is consistent and aesthetically pleasing, in a way that’s both enticing and intimidating. Mizuki’s fan-wielding gives her a sense of grace, but her stern look and intricate headpiece suggest she’s not to be messed with. I love this skin, and it earns its spot at the top.
That’s how we’d order the skins in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2, but how about you? Let us know how you’d rank the skins in the comments below, and keep your eyes on GameLuster for more gaming news.
