Spiders Reportedly Liquidated as the Studio Behind GreedFall Shuts Down

Reports have confirmed that Spiders – the Paris-based studio behind GreedFall, Steelrising, and The Technomancer – has been liquidated, marking the end of a studio that spent nearly two decades building a name in the AA RPG space. A trustee filed a court petition for liquidation after no buyers could be found, with the studio given 15 days post-approval to disband its team.

Spiders built its reputation on ambitious AA RPGs like GreedFall – now the studio is gone.

Founded in 2008 by veterans of Silverfall developer Monte Cristo, Spiders spent years scaling up before GreedFall brought the studio its widest recognition. The closure is directly tied to the collapse of parent company Nacon, which filed for insolvency in February 2026 after majority shareholder Bigben Interactive failed to meet its financial obligations – triggering insolvency filings across all four of Nacon’s subsidiaries. The French video game union, the Syndicat des Travailleureuses du Jeu Vidéo, didn’t mince words in a March 2026 statement, condemning Nacon’s executives for what it called active sabotage of viable studios through “disdain for video game production and their incompetence.” It’s a damning verdict, and the kind of story that fits a broader pattern of publisher mismanagement upending otherwise functional development teams.

Honestly, the timing here makes this especially grim. GreedFall: The Dying World launched in Early Access in 2024 – roughly six weeks before the closure announcement – which raises real questions about whether the team was ever given a fair shot at turning that project around. Nacon has said planned DLC for the game will still release, which is something, but it doesn’t change the fact that the people who built it are now out of work. There are real human costs behind a liquidation notice, and this one lands harder knowing the union’s position: that this wasn’t inevitable, it was manufactured.
