Last year, hackers found three mythical Pokemon hidden inside X & Y’s code- Diancie, Hoopa, and Volcanion. Since then, Diancie has been released, and Hoopa has been hacked into the game by players.

The last article I wrote about these three included details about Hoopa, and its ties to the lore of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. The article includes an event that hackers found when they hacked Hoopa into their Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire games. (If you missed it, you can read the post here)

But, now we know some things about Volcanion too.

The image you  see above the article is the legendary pokemon itself. And it’s strange colours are down to the fact that it is both a water type and a fire type. Weird, right?

As with Hoopa, Volcanion has not been offically released by Game Freak, but hackers have still managed to get this pokemon into their games anyway, giving us access to moves it can learn and its Pokedex entry.

Have when the Pokemon was first found, hackers released screenshots from X & Y detailing some of the myths surrounding Volcanion and it’s biology. From these screenshots, we know that Volcanion once helped build an entire nation, and is so powerful it can blow up mountains. (See the screenshots below)

Volcanion Event

After the release of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the team responsible for finding Hoopa and its event discovered even more unused code, this time detailing an event for Volcanion. As well as this, we also found out that Volcanion has unaired television specials entirely dedicated to the pokemon.

You can see the event below:

The text from the event can be read in full below:

Volcanion Event Text:

Hot diggidy! That’s a Volcanion you have there, isn’t it?

As far as I know, the people in that group are the only ones in history to have seen this Pokémon. To think that I’d meet a Trainer who not only found Volcanion, but actually caught it!

What a day! I like you, kid! I’m the head of this TV studio. How about I show you some top-secret specials we made about Volcanion?

They’re a little something I made for a TV show once back in the day, but… Well, things didn’t work out, and they ended up getting shelved.

OK! Sit back and enjoy! My top-secret Volcanion specials!

All right! Which clip would you like to watch?

This is a special edition of MVTV: Explorations of the Ancient World! Join us deep in the swamplands of the Kalos region where we found a mythical Volcanion! … Explorer: “B-boss! There it is! It’s Volcanion!” Brandon: “Oh! Get back! If it blows, it could send even huge mountains flying! It can change moisture into super-heated steam in an instant with its internal organs causing a massive explosion!” Explorer: “That was a close one! Thanks for saving me, boss!” Brandon: “Stay alert at all times! Don’t forget your courage sensor!”

This is a special edition of MVTV: Explorations of the Ancient World! Join us in the untouched woodlands of the Sinnoh region where we found a mythical Volcanion! … Explorer: “B-boss! There it is! It’s Volcanion!” Brandon: “Oh! Get back! Look at those arm-like things growing out of its back! It uses those to suck in moisture to turn into a thick fog! If we stay here, we’ll be trapped in the fog!” Explorer: “That was a close one! Thanks for saving me, boss!” Brandon: “Stay alert at all times! Don’t forget your courage sensor!”

This is a special edition of MVTV: Explorations of the Ancient World! Join us on a desert island in the Johto region where we found a mythical Volcanion! … Explorer: “B-boss! There it is! It’s Volcanion!” Brandon: “Oh! Get back! An explosion from Volcanion can even change mountain ranges into plains! It’s thought that ancient land masses were formed in that way.” Explorer: “That was a close one! Thanks for saving me, boss!” Brandon: “Stay alert at all times! Don’t forget your courage sensor!”

How about that?! Quite the spectacle, wasn’t it? That’s our fantastic TV series from the famous explorer Brandon!

All right, that was quite the spectacle! That’s our fantastic TV series from the famous explorer Brandon!

Players who have played through Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be familiar with the TV station in Mauville. Although right now nothing much is happening in that area, it appears that the purpose of the TV station being included may just have been part of the Volcanion event. After all, the person that the player is speaking to is the head of the TV station.
The first time I saw the huge building, I was convinced that there HAD to be something special about it. I spent hours looking for the purpose of the TV station. After finding nothing for a while, I stumbled upon Volcanion and decided to write this article.

One detail about the dialogue still puzzles me though. Throughout the diologue, the name of a character is said multiple times. Who is this Brandon? Well, any player who has completed Pokemon Emerald would probably know of “Pyramid King Brandon” from the Battle Frontier. In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, there is no Battle Frontier. Instead, they have a Battle Resort. And what is inside the Battle Resort? This:Frontier Project

My theory is that the Brandon that is featured in the dialogue is the very same Brandon from the Battle Frontier. A quote from the Bulbapedia says that:

Brandon appreciates the grand life of the explorer. He recalls the passion, danger, and desperation of his death-defying and life-affirming adventures. When defeated in battle, he’ll praise the grandeur of the match and hand over the Brave Symbol.

Sounds rather fitting, right?

So to recap, Volcanion has an event and a set of TV specials within the game, Game Freak teases the Battle Frontier in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, increasing the hope that the Pokemon and the Battle Frontier will be included as DLC for the game, or possibly a sequel to X & Y. Another theory is that they could be introduced within another “Delta Episode”, the first of which is available once the player has completed the game.

Whatever happens, it is clear that people are excited about these newly discovered legendaries.

Stay tuned for more news.
