Games often feature references to games of all different types, sometimes subtly in the gameplay and on other occasions quite prominently with an obvious reference, such as the Mario and Yoshi statue in Metal Gear Solid 2, and now there is a new reference to the classic Super Mario Bros world 1-1 in the game Dying Light, it is nothing major but it is pretty cool, so I do recommend taking a look at the pretty good job they made with this reference.
