Last night’s all-digital edition of The Game Awards was absolutely filled to the brim with exciting announcements. From the reveal of Sephiroth as the latest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter to official confirmation that new titles in the Dragon Age and Mass Effect series are coming, there was plenty to keep gamers excited throughout the event.
But with so many big announcements to catch you’re attention, here’s a few that might have slipped through the cracks. In fact, there’s so many, we’re bringing you a special super-sized edition of our usual Top 10: a Top 15!
15. Rocket League Season 2 Kicks Off
Chaotic “car soccer” title Rocket League kicked off its second season immediately following its announcement at the Game Awards. It will last until March 31st. A new Rocket Pass is available for purchase to unlock exclusive items. Plus, check out new weekly challenges, rewards, and player anthems – including a track from popular DJ Kaskade, who made the Rocket League announcement at the Game Awards. Rocket League is available to play for free online.
14. Destiny 2 Dazzles With New Beyond Light Trailer
First-person shooter Destiny 2 unveiled its enormous Beyond Light expansion last month. Beyond Light, which is the game’s fifth major expansion, is set on the frigid moon of Europa. Players’ Guardian characters must learn how to harness a brand new Darkness power in order to defeat a sinister villain who wields the Darkness and seeks revenge for her Fallen race. The trailer shows off some of the new gameplay in Beyond Light, including new Exotic Weapons which the player can wield. Destiny 2 can be started for free online.
13. Omen PCs Receiving New “Gaming Hub” Feature
Developer HP had plenty of announcements to make at The Game Awards, including a brand new “Omen Presents” program which will partner with game developers to offer innovative new titles such as the recently revealed “Road 96.” In addition, Omen gaming PCs will be getting a new feature called “Gaming Hub,” which will give players unprecedented control over their PC’s performance. This new feature will also include a beta version of the new Omen Light Studio program.
12. A New Rogue Joins the Battle in Rogue Company
Online team-based multiplayer shooter Rogue Company had previously teased that some big news was in store for the Game Awards – and it certainly was. The new playable Rogue, Sigrid, is a “defender of the innocent” with a unique gameplay style blending attack and defense options. She will be a “Breacher” type character with the ability to lead assaults and break through enemy lines. Her weapons will include a SMG and a Riot Shield, which were shown off in the Game Awards trailer.
11. Experience the Cayo Perico Heist in Grand Theft Auto Online
On December 15, the “biggest GTA adventure of them all” will be added to Grand Theft Auto Online. It will transport players to a tropical paradise filled with nightclubs, epic parties, flashy celebrities – and a drug ring that needs busting. Players will complete missions in order to complete the heist. The target? El Rubio, a drug trafficker who rules Cayo Perico with an iron fist. A new trailer shown off at the Game Awards reveals that players will be able to set up an elaborate plan to take El Rubio down.
10. Cyberpunk 2077 Vehicle Races Into Forza Horizon 4
Starting today, high-speed racing game Forza Horizon 4 is debuting a brand new vehicle: none other than the ultra high tech “Quadra Turbo-R V-Tech” from CD Projekt RED’s recently released futuristic open world title, Cyberpunk 2077. News of the car’s addition was leaked online earlier this week, but it was officially revealed during The Game Awards. The Quadra Turbo-R V-Tech will be available as a free download for all owners of Forza Horizon 4.
9. Hood: Outlaws and Legends Sneaks Into Early Access Next Year
Team up with your friends and form your own band of outlaws, then compete against a rival group to be the first ones to score valuable treasure. Explore a history- and lore-rich game world inspired by the stories of Robin Hood in Hood: Outlaws and Legends. At The Game Awards, it was revealed that not only is the game releasing on May 10th, 2021, but it will be available for three days of early access beginning March 7. Early access players will also unlock the bonus Forest Lords content pack.
8. Fight to Survive in Scavengers – Beta Available Now
Scavengers is a free-to-play online experience developed by the minds behind the Halo series. Featuring both PvE and PvP content, it centers around groups of survivors in a frozen wasteland that is all that remains of the world who are forced to fight off both infected creatures and one another as they search for a cure for a deadly virus. The Game Awards revealed that a closed beta of Scavengers is currently available for PC, with a full release planned for sometime in 2021.
7. Experience Myst in VR on the Oculus Quest
The classic puzzle / adventure title Myst is fondly remembered by gamers all around the world. As The Game Awards revealed, it is now available to experience in a brand new way. That’s right, Myst is now on VR via the Oculus Quest system. This all-new version of Myst features new art, new sounds, new interactions and even a brand new feature which allows players to randomize puzzles. It’s Myst like never before!
6. Microsoft Flight Simulator Soars Onto Xbox
Microsoft Flight Simulator won big at the Game Awards, taking home the title for Best Strategy / Simulation Game of 2020. Microsoft followed up that win with an announcement that the stunning simulation title will be coming to the next-gen Xbox Series X/S in summer 2021. The Xbox version will also receive all of the free World Updates and DLC that released for the PC edition. The trailer’s emphasis on players being able to explore “the entire world” also hints that more content updates are coming in the future.
5. Super Meat Boy Forever Receives Release Date
Super Meat Boy Forever has been talked about for years. The sequel to the original Super Meat Boy was originally slated for a 2019 release, but a shift in focus from an endless platformer to a more story-based experience resulted in several delays. However, it was announced at The Game Awards that the title is finally coming to PC on December 23, 2020. At first, it will only be available via the Epic Games Store, but a Steam release is also planned, with expansions to other platforms in the future being a definite possibility.
4. Fall Guys‘ New Season is Winter Wonderland-Themed
It’s the most wonder-FALL time of the year! Against a background of cheery holiday music, it was announced that Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout’s winter-themed Season 3 will be starting on December 15. The season is reported to feature seven new levels, a number of new emotes, and 30 new costumes. A few of those costumes were revealed during The Game Awards trailer, including a penguin, a reindeer, an elf, and plenty of beans all bundled up in scarves and jackets for some winter fun!
3. Serving Up The Swedish Chef in Overcooked
Beloved – if slightly incomprehensible – Muppet character The Swedish Chef made his second appearance at The Game Awards this year. At first, the Chef was a bit confused, as he thought he had won an award. In fact, he was actually there to announce that he himself is debuting as a skin in fast-paced co-op cooking game Overcooked. The Swedish Chef will be available as a free download to anyone who owns the All You Can Eat edition, which includes both Overcooked and Overcooked 2.
2. Tons of New Titles Coming to Xbox Game Pass
This holiday season, tons of classic titles are being added to the Xbox Game Pass subscription service, including a number which were announced at The Game Awards. New additions include The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Among Us, The Medium, Killer Queen Black, and the Remastered versions of multiple titles in the Yakuza series. Yakuza 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be available via Game Pass for both console and PC. Plus, for a limited time only, get three months of Game Pass for only $1!
1. Among Us Previews “The Airship” Map
2020’s most viral hit, Among Us, had an awesome night at The Game Awards, taking home both Best Mobile Game and Best Multiplayer. In addition, development team Innersloth previewed the highly anticipated new playable map, “The Airship,” which is inspired by their previous game Henry Stickmin Adventures. The Airship will be one of the game’s largest maps to date, and will include new features such as ladders and the ability to choose which room of the ship you spawn in at the start of the game.
