New Evil Dead Game Announced

The Game Awards had a lot of new titles being announced last night, from additions to established franchises to brand new IPs. But it wasn’t just big blockbusters dominating the show. Sometimes, cult classics (and their kin) showed up for their turn in the spotlight..

Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games announced that Evil Dead: The Game will be coming out sometime in 2021. Promising four-player co-op and PvP play, players will be able to take on roles from characters who have appeared in the Evil Dead movies and the Ash vs. Evil Dead TV series, including Ashley J. “Ash” Williams (played by Bruce Campbell).

In co-op mode, players work together to explore, craft, discover artifacts, and work to seal the breach between worlds which allow the “Deadites” to wreak havoc on the hapless populace. Or, if you’re in a PvP mood, you can take control of the Kandarian Demon, using the powers of the Necronomicon Ex Mortis and the Deadite hordes to grind the humans under, or even take possession of them. Players will be treated to in-game recreations of iconic locations from the films and TV series, as well as new dialogue recorded by Campbell when playing as Ash. Over twenty-five weapons, including Ash’s favorite “Boomstick,” will be available for players to combat the undead menace and hopefully save the world.

Campbell himself seems very excited by the prospect of reprising his role in another video game outing for the franchise. “I’m excited to be strapping on the chainsaw one more time,” he said. “Boss Team and Saber Interactive are planning a huge immersive dealio, and I knew I had to come back. You’ll be able to step into my shoes and kick some Deadite ass!”

The game is currently planned to release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
