The Borderlands franchise has passed 100 million copies sold worldwide, Gearbox Software and 2K announced on November 2 in a message to the Borderlands community.
Seventeen years after the original Borderlands introduced players to the planet of Pandora in 2009, the looter-shooter series has joined the short list of franchises that have moved nine-figure units. Gearbox and 2K credit the milestone to Borderlands 4’s launch on September 11, 2025, and its steady run of post-launch content, which the announcement says has included two Story Packs, five Bounty Packs and two new Vault Hunters.
100 free Golden Keys, one code
To mark the milestone, Gearbox announced on the official Borderlands Twitter account that players can redeem SHiFT code CZKJJ-35RH6-T9K9C-9TJJT-SXRCT for 20 Golden Keys in each of five games: Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Borderlands 3 and Borderlands 4. The code is valid until November 16, 2026, and can be redeemed only once per account. Players who own all five titles can claim a total of 100 Golden Keys, each of which opens the golden chest for rare loot.
For context on how rare the club is: Monster Hunter Wilds shipped 10 million units in its first month earlier this year, and Elden Ring needed three years to cross 30 million copies shipped.
The Hunt returns November 6
The celebration also folds in Borderlands’ charity tradition. Gearbox said that earlier in 2026 the community raised a record $118,995.80 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through The Hunt, the franchise’s long-running fundraising event. When the next edition of The Hunt begins on November 6, 2K Foundations and Gearbox have pledged to match every dollar donated, up to the amount raised during the previous event.
