FromSoftware practically invented a genre with Dark Souls, but they went on to master it with Elden Ring. The fusion between their classic ‘Soulslike’ gameplay mixed with a unique take on the ever popular open-world genre was a success out of the gate, but the developers have showcased a new milestone beaten over on the official Elden Ring social media accounts. Yes, Elden Ring has now officially shipped 30 million copies worldwide.
This figure is split between digital sales and physical shipments across all platforms, those being PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series consoles and Steam. The last update we had was from the end of September 2024, where Elden Ring had shipped a little over 28.5 million units before the holiday season. It seems the Christmas just past and the start of the new year was all the game needed to power straight through to that jaw-dropping 30 million milestone.
The sheer sales power of Elden Ring puts it far above other FromSoftware titles, outselling any game in the Dark Souls trilogy, Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. A multiplayer co-op spinoff, Elden Ring Nightreign, is set to be released next month on May 30. Set in a procedurally generated Limgrave, players will need to team up to defeat bosses over the course of three in-game days as the map shrinks, Fortnite style.
We aren’t surprised to see Elden Ring performing so well – we famously liked it a lot more than Tears of the Kingdom, despite the inspiration they take from each other.
