A live-action television adaptation of God of War has been commissioned by Amazon Prime Video. Those behind the series include Rafe Judkins, an executive producer of Prime Video’s fantasy series The Wheel of Time who will serve as showrunner on the series. Judkins will work alongside Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, the creators and executive producers behind The Expanse, who are set to write and executive produce.
Amazon Studios will collaborate with Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions for the God of War series. Naturally, the internet has gone into meltdown following the news, with Twitter users asking the studios to cast everyone from the likes of Tom Holland to John Travolta in the role of Kratos. As expected, there’s also an abundance of Kratos memes.

Courtesy of a report from GamesRadar, there has also been a statement from Katherine Pope, President of Sony Pictures. She announced they were “proud and excited to be working with our friends at Amazon Studios and our partners at PlayStation Productions to adapt this beautiful and heartbreaking game into a premium live-action series.”
She continued, “Rafe, Mark and Hawk are crafting a transportive series that charts a path through the ancient mythological journey of Kratos.” The head of Playstation Productions, Asad Qizilbash, hailed God of War as “one of PlayStation’s most awarded video games, so we’re excited to partner with Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios to bring our beloved franchise to fans and new audiences in a bold and authentic way.”
At this stage, a release date for the God of War streaming adaptation remains unknown and likely far away. We’ll be sure to report on any updates as they come.
