Embark Studios has confirmed it is ending the monthly update cadence it promised at launch for ARC Raiders. The game will move to bi-annual major content drops, with the next, Frozen Trail, due in October as the largest content drop since launch, according to a development update signed by Executive Producer Aleksander Grøndal.
Here’s the context: ARC Raiders launched with a commitment to monthly updates through the Escalation Roadmap, which set out four consecutive drops. Embark is now moving away from that pace. The most recent major update, Riven Tides, added a new biome but arrived essentially half a year after Stella Montis and left some players wanting more from the wait. The studio is instead pursuing larger, less frequent releases.

Between major updates, Embark says a dedicated live-service team will continue to ship balance patches, bug fixes, store updates, and player events. Frozen Trail is planned as a broad update, bringing a sprawling new map, a new ARC Operation with new enemy designs and behaviors, a reworked skill tree, progression goals beyond the current Raider Den and Skill Point ceiling, and narrative content exploring the origin of ARC.
The shift addresses a clear concern around long-term player goals. Embark’s update frames progression and meaningful objectives as central to the ARC Raiders experience, while acknowledging that a monthly cadence did not give the team enough room to build more substantial changes. The trade-off is that players will now wait longer between major releases.
Grøndal said the pressure of a monthly cycle had limited how impactful updates could be and was neither sustainable nor compatible with the team’s ambitions for the game. He also said Frozen Trail will begin advancing the wider goal of Raiders reclaiming the surface while revealing elements of the challenge ahead.
- New Trader – unlocks at level 25 and uses a barter system rather than currency, with weekly rotating rewards.
- Expedition Vault – lets players carry up to five items across the Expedition wipe.
- Stash Space – provides a way to increase storage capacity through the Trader.
- Frozen Trail – brings the game’s largest map, a new ARC Operation, a reworked skill tree, new progression systems, narrative content about ARC’s origin, and additional weapons, items, instruments, and cosmetics.
The new Trader arrives next week and is aimed at late-game players with high-value gear. It unlocks at level 25, offers rare items and cosmetics in exchange for high-value items, and may sometimes ask players to find specific rare items for trade. Its inventory will rotate weekly.
The system is designed to address several late-game issues at once: a way to offload valuable items, additional stash capacity, and a less punishing path into Expedition through the five carry-over Vault slots. For players who have reached the Raider Den and Skill Point limits, the new progression goals planned for Frozen Trail may be equally important.
Embark’s update presents Frozen Trail as the first major test of the new approach. The studio is promising a larger map and wider systems work rather than a series of smaller monthly additions, while its live-service team handles the game’s regular support between those larger releases.

What to watch: Frozen Trail is confirmed for October. Before then, the Trader’s arrival next week will offer the first new system intended to give late-game players more uses for high-value gear, more storage options, and items that can survive an Expedition wipe.
The key question is whether the new Trader and ongoing live-service support can help sustain player interest between major releases, and whether Frozen Trail can deliver the broader progression, map, and narrative changes Embark has outlined for October.
